Les Savy Fav formed in 1995 while studying art at Rhode Island School of Design. From its inception the band has married art rock and rock rock disregarding the rules of both in the process. Best know for their chaotic live shows, the band has also released three full length albums. Their first, 3/5, was released on the Self Starter Foundation in spring 1998. For 1999's The Cat and the Cobra bassist Syd Butler with the help of the rest of the band, decided to create his own label, frenchkiss records. They are currently on tour for their latest effort(also on frenchkiss records) GO FORTH which folows up the well loved EP ROME(written upside down). The band has also released/are releasing 7 inch singles on sub-pop, Desoto, Self-Starter, and X-mist.

Capturing the tension between sincerity and sarcasm, focus and disarray, art and science, tragedy and comedy GO FORTH represents the Fav's most dynamic songwriting and recording to date. Songs range from four-on-the-floor dance beats (crawling can be beautiful, the slip) to bitter-sweet pop (one two three, bloom on demand) to blistering rock anthems (tragic monsters, reprobate's resumé). Covering topics from the dangers of hitch-hiking on the autobahn (disco drive) to fond memories of being held hostage (adopduction) to a dialog about chaos theory with a burning bush (pills). GO FORTH is an ambitious album of details and secrets waiting to be decoded. Honesty and evasiveness become a fascinating puzzle as singer Tim Harrington's lyrics babble and rant then turn on a dime becoming candid and clear. The same is true in the relationships of guitarist Seth Jabour, bassist Syd Butler, and drummer Harrison Haynes: Unlikely bed fellows are married in such a way that their incongruity seems entirely natural. ABOUT ROME (written upside down)

"Soon after this hauntings began in the house. Cocks' feathers smeared in blood were found among the cushions and unlucky signs were scrawled on the wall in charcoal, sometimes low down as if a dwarf had written them, sometimes high up as if written by a giant- a man hanging, the word Rome written upside down... Then appeared the name Germanicus, upside down, every day shortened by a letter."

In Robert Graves' I, Claudius there is a section where someone hires a witch to hex Germanicus. The magic employed is more psychological than supernatural. Much more insidious than a direct attack, its goal is to build paranoia and to terrorize. Ancient Rome broke wild Europe leaving in it's wake bureaucracy, treason, and science. ROME(written upside down) is our hex against all that in hope that the dying Gaul may recover yet.

ABOUT THE CAT AND THE COBRA

''GIVE US YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE LES SAVY FAV IS NOT A BAND. WE ARE PIRATES IN BIPLANES, DOCTORS IN TRIAGE, BONFIRES ON OIL RIGS WITH MAGNETS AND COILS.''

Since 1995 LES SAVY FAV have been enthusiastically binging on the American Music Scene while perfecting their concoction of dissonant pop defined by it's driving bass, disco drumming, bratty guitars, and spastic vocals and illustrated by a fistfull of 7''s and the cult classic full length 3/5.

For the recording and much of the writing of LES SAVY FAV's ''THE CAT AND THE COBRA'' the band was joined by drummer Harrison Haynes. He, like former drummer Pat Mahoney, met the rest of the band while studying art at Rhode Island School of Design. That's the school the talking heads went to. Like the talking heads L.S.F.are committed to making idiosyncratic pop music; songs which are both deceptively simple and deceptively complex.

With the release of ''THE CAT AND THE COBRA'' pending the FAV's plot to take the U.S. by storm with their most ambitious touring and press effort to date. Bored with other labels'lack of style LES SAVY FAV's bassist Syd Butler has built the new label frenchkiss records to house LES SAVY FAV and other new bands. frenchkiss records is a bedroom on the inside and an archigram walking city on the outside.
