Regatta 69 (USA)

Out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, home of the indie rock giants Archers of Loaf, Superchunk, Polvo, and Ben folds five as well as the swingy Squirrel Nut Zippers, emerges REGATTA 69 who adds their own brand of progressive reggae rock to the scene. With songwriting as a main focus, REGATTA's sound is a swift twist of off-beat rock, fast reggae rhythms, and punchy horn riffs.

REGATTA 69 pulls in enthusiastic crowds all over the US and Europe while adding a new dimension to the Chapel Hill music genre. They are known as a horn-blasting, beat-pounding, foot-movin' progressive ska band. Their infectious reggae-rock groove gets people up on their feet like you've never seen them dance before. These young sweaty guys have toured the U.S. extensively, perfecting their craft of delivering an all-out energetic concert of their original pop/ska music.

To date, Regatta Sixty-Nine has performed 600+ shows in over 42 states and seven countries. Their shows also feature carefully selected covers that have been recorded by Regatta Sixty-Nine for various compilation CDs.

Regatta 69 was very well received while showcasing for the National Association of Campus Activities at the 1996 National Convention (Nashville, TN), at the 1996 Southeastern Regional Convention (Charlotte, NC), and the 1997 New England Regional Convention (Newburgh, NY). The group received over 60 strong interest contracts (most turned into confirmations).

REGATTA 69 has sold tens of thousands of recordings. Their first three CDs and many compilation tracks continue to chart on college radio around the world and regularly appear on play-lists for ska, reggae, and world music specialty shows. This year and beyond brings on an exiting agenda as the group releases three new CDs on APB Records. The first is called "SKAttered, SMOTHered, COVERed" which includes many tracks that only appeared before on compilations as well as many cover tunes and rare tracks. REGATTA 69 recorded the second record, "Captured Live," at a 1996 live show in a club of the same name in Durham, NC ('best live show of the year' - Independent Weekly). The third is a full-length album yet to be named full of newly recorded tracks.

REGATTA 69's record label APB Records has national US distribution through Redeye USA and is signed with Mad/Black Butcher Records for their European releases. Furthermore, REGATTA 69 has been featured on over 15 compilations from various record labels.

As the touring keeps on and the audiences grow, the group will be pushing forward as always. So "get on board" the coolest catamaran in the sea of music and jam with Regatta 69 at a show, online, or at home!
