Dead And Gone

Oakland's DEAD AND GONE have just completed work on their 3rd album, The Beautician, slated for release on GSL in March. The LP follows-up their previous GSL release, a 4-song double 7" issued soon after the band reformed in mid-2000.

Their premature break-up in '97 caught many by surprise, as their new album, God Loves Everyone But You (Alternative Tentacles) was being heralded as their strongest release to date. The band toured the US and Europe in support of the LP, supporting NEUROSIS and others along the way. Soon, however, singer Shane was out and DEAD AND GONE were effectively over.

The remaining three members immediately re-formed as CREEPS ON CANDY, releasing the stunning Wonders of Giardia album (also on Alternative Tentacles, 1998), an explosive, menacing hybrid of BIRTHDAY PARTY decadence and JESUS LIZARD mechanics.

Eventually, Shane returned to the fold and DEAD AND GONE was back in business. They quickly recorded 4 new tracks which were released as the self-titled double 7" in July 2000. While writing new songs, the band also toured the Western US supporting THE LOCUST in mid-2001, including a performance at Columbus' More Than Music Festival.

Strychnine

They started out drinking and ended up a band. They don't remember their first intentions but it was 1995 and they were all addicted to something. Jimi was still in Capitol Punishment and they were spun on crack.

At the time the band was:
len rokk, git.
mike-o-psyco, bass (both ex of filth)
damon vermon, ex-roadie, git.
markley hart;ex-econochrist,drums
jimi, the voice of reason, ex CP, ex Hell's Kitchen

IN 6 months they had recorded a DEMO tape and lost our 1st member, due to crack or something. Anyway, they toured on a demo tape. Ha! Not possible, you say. Well they did, with Germany's A-38, on a 2 week tour of the southwest. They hooked up with ther first label on that trip, Reform Records, and released ''Fucked Up Inside'', a 7-inch on acid colored vinyl.

Shortly after the recording of "F.U.I.", mike-o left the band and they added lil' derek (lil'd as he is known now), who played with himself more than he did with them. OHHH but that's another story. Anyhoo, they moved on.

In 1996 East Bay Menace Records was formed by Len rokk, Murray Bowles, and Rachel Dencker. They released 3 records: ''Shit Gets Smashed'' a compilation of East Bay Punk bands, Grimple's ''upyerass'', and Logical Nonsense\Grimple Split L.P. The 4th record was Strychnine`s 1st full LP, "Dead Rats And Oakland Dogs'', that sent them down the road again...a full tour of the u.s.a. This tour went on for 2 and a half months of bedwetting drunkeness, a great time for all.

Shortly after returning home, STRYCHNINE geared up for it's first European tour, which started in jolly ol' England. They played many festivals and punk picnics, with such bands as Oi Polloi, English Dogs, Chaos U.K., Citizen Fish, to name a few. The highlight of this tour was The B.O.B.Festival in Bath, and the strip search at the HATE border going into the Checz Republic.

After returning home, STRYCHNINE added another guitar, none other than EAST BAY legend Idon Bryant, They were writing new songs and saving their pennies for their 2nd trip to Europe when Lil' dicdork had had about all he could take, so he quit. They acted fast, placing a call to L.A. to an old friend from Fresno, Joe ''I was in Decline 3'' fucko!'' Garcia, of the now defunct "Naked Agression''. After returning home from Europe STRYCHNINE recorded a split picture disc with the Workin' Stiffs...a lovely 7-inch featuring the vocals of Mr. Monterey Mark. Len has since quit and Idon too, but the musik pounds on with the a new guitar player Mr Brian Hood, Ex of The Good Fellas and Accustomed To Nothing.
